Born and raised in Hong Kong, Hok Chun (Anthony) Kwan moved to the United States in 2003. He currently lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota, travelling frequently to Asia. In 2011, while studying engineering at the University of Minnesota, Kwan joined the university’s student newspaper The Minnesota Daily as a staff photographer thus unintentionally launching his career in photojournalism. What began as a casual interest grew into an all-consuming passion and eventually led Kwan to abandon his engineering career and become a professional freelance photographer. Gaining access to the lives and stories of his subjects, Kwan captures candid moments of emotion, truth, and, at times, humor. Anthony Kwan’s photographs have been published in print and online for The Minnesota Daily, American Public Media, Minnesota Public Radio and Associated Press. He has also been awarded photographic prizes from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Collegiate Press in recognition of his breaking news, general news, and sports photography. Kwan has travelled to Japan, Hong Kong, and all over North America in his photographic pursuits. Currently, he is working on several personal projects, freelancing, and is available for assignment.
